I am in the process of cutting the bottom of this matrix piece so it form a base to sit right for display purposes. i will take my time on this one. No slab saw or rock vise I have to use a tile saw. (Author: Jason)

I am perhaps best known for my collection of diamonds from Pike Co. Arkansas, USA. These crystals range from 1.43 carats to 8.82 carats. It has taken years to track down these historic diamonds, which are some of the largest and finest ever found at the Crater of Diamonds State Park. They were on display as part of the 2008 American Minerals Treasures exhibit (and book) at Tucson. Range from 8 mm to 14 mm. (Author: Jim)

I am sure nearly everyone has Sulphur (I prefer the old spelling) as an example of a Native Element mineral. This one is a little diffrent in that it appears to have been dripped on the matrix like wax from a tipping candle. It is from San Carlos Mine, San Felipe, Mun. de Mexicali, Baja California Norte, Mexico. The crystal is 3/8" (10mm) across (Author: Jim Prentiss)

I contented myself with wandering around this high plateau. It was desolate and beautiful, but no real signs of pegmatites. Quite often there are lots of white quartz pieces lying about, but it’s the ’wrong kind of quartz’, weathered out from hydrothermal veins, (not smoky quartz from pegmatites), and rarely contains euhedral crystals. (Author: Mike Wood)

I had to carefully negotiate the huge snowdrift to begin the descent. A slip here would have been diastrous and I only had a hiking stick - should have had an ice-axe really. Fortunately the snow was slightly soft. If it had been rock-hard neve I wouldn’t have attempted it. (Author: Mike Wood)

I have mentioned that I am fsatinated by different habits, this Opal (Hyalite) is an example of my favorite habit(s), botryoidal, reniform, mammillary. Freud would probably say it was because I was bottle fed. In addition to the habit, though, is the near water clear transparency. This piece is from the Czech Republic. It measures 1 1/2" x 1" x 1" (2.8cm x 2.5cm x 2.5cm) (Author: Jim Prentiss)

I have seen quite a bit of the "star" Muscovite coming out of Brazil. And as I have no examples, I submit this little pseudohexagonal crystal aggregate for consideration. The specimen is about 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" (3.81cm x 3.81cm) (Author: Jim Prentiss)

I like this Astrophyllite because of its different habit, it looks like copper colored streamers lying on the matrix. The field of view is 3" (7.62cm). It is from Eveslogchorr Mountain, Khibiny Massif, Kola Peninsula, Murmanskaja Oblast, Northern Region, Russia. (Author: Jim Prentiss)
-
I like this Kernite because it is simple and was a new mineral for me. it is a bit difficult to display at it is 10 1/2" x 4/12" 3" (26.6cm x 11.4cm x 7.6cm). It is from kern Co., California. I purchased this piece a few years ago at the Alaska Miners Convention Rock and Mineral show. (Author: Jim Prentiss)

I like this piece because it has a complicated, asymmetrical termination (pinacoid on one side and pyramidal on the other) and has some etched dihexagonal faces along the prism. (Author: Matt_Zukowski)

I liked those one miniature especially because of the two small gemmy wulfenites in the middle. I think this is rather rare for this find - Size 4.5 cm x 3.0 cm x 2.0 cm (Author: jaysminerals)

I love complicated xtal shapes. These cubes are modified by a nice assortment of faces. The faces that parallel the edges of the cubes are not simple dodecahedral faces - there are two of them at a shallower angle than the dodecahedral face. I doubt any of the corner faces are octahedral - too many of them. (Author: Matt_Zukowski)

If you like Sweet Home mine rhodochrosites you´ll smile at me if I tell you that this is a very good Saxonian rhodochrosite sample. About 6,5 cm consisting of tiny saddle-shaped rhombs. From Alte Hoffnung Gottes mine, Kleinvoigtsberg, Freiberg district, Erzgebirge, Saxony. Rhodochrosite for itself is not that rare in Freiberg, but crystals are. Kleinvoigtsberg and Rothenfurth developed the best ones. Today it´s very hard to find any, this one I got at the Freiberg show in 2009. With two old labels (dating from 1901) - "Dialogit" is an old German name for rhodochrosite (being in use until approx. 1920). (Author: Andreas Gerstenberg)

The Ilvaite’s flat termination is completely covered with slightly sceptered milky Quartz crystals oriented parallel to the Ilvaite’s c-axis. A large, 75 x 15 mm, sceptered Quartz with a glassy cap is intergrown with a doubly-terminated Quartz, and these are accompanied by numerous other smaller sceptered Quartz. (Author: GneissWare)
