The Steward Mine was staked in 1877 and operated until 1975. A total of 79 men lost their lives in the Steward during it 98 years of operation. The main shaft was 3,900 feet deep and was one of the richest copper/silver mines in the district. It produced fine specimens of barite, bornite, and tennantite. (Author: crosstimber)
