Pale violet fluorite octahedron from the Arnsdorf granite quarries, Königshainer Berge near Görlitz, Oberlausitz, Saxony. Although fluorites often occur in granite deposits (think of Strzegom/Poland), at this very location fluorite is a rarity. In the literature you´ll find marginal notes concerning little green or violet aggregates - not as good as the famous smoky quartzes from here. The shown crystal is part of a find some couple of years ago which developed a few single crystals and two or three matrix samples. Most of them were bought by the Bergakademie Freiberg. Pectolite Castle Danger, the Rock Yard, Minnesota, USA About 5 X 9 X 9 cm Radiating clusters of Pectolite crystals and another mineral, possibly xonotlite, in a dark green mix of augite and plagioclase altered to prehnite. About 5 X 9 X 9 cm, the specimen is an amygdule containing the pectolite, surrounded by prehnite. This was described in a 1924 article by G. M. Schwartz of the U of MN in the American Mineralogist, pp. 83 - 88. (Author: John Nash)

Pegmatite Ben Loyal, Sutherland, Scotland 30cm across Higher up the very steep ground near the top of the spur I was climbing, I came across a section of pegmatite I had seen before, seventeen years ago. This chunk of quartz with microcline var. amazonite was lying on the surface. I had a little dig in what was obviously a swelling in an otherwise narrow pegmatite vein, but did not find much worth collecting. Most of the microcline was pink. (Author: Mike Wood)
